Katavi is Tanzania's third-largest national park at 4,471 km². During the dry season (July–October) the Katuma River dries to a handful of shrinking pools stuffed with hundreds of hippos and crocodiles — a famously brutal wildlife concentration. Buffalo herds of 1,000+, lion prides, and only ~1,000 tourists a year. Fly-in only; no road infrastructure.
