About Nyamata Genocide Memorial

Nyamata is one of the most confronting Genocide memorials in Rwanda β€” a large Catholic church in Bugesera district where some 10,000 Tutsi sought refuge in April 1994 and were murdered. The church has been left almost exactly as it was: bullet-scarred ceilings, piles of clothing, underground crypts of remains. A sobering, unmissable site.
