About Gombe Stream National Park

Gombe is tiny (56 km²) and famous only for its chimpanzees — yet is one of the most important primate sites on Earth. Jane Goodall began her Gombe research in July 1960 and continues to support the station today. The Kasekela community of 50+ chimpanzees is fully habituated. Access is by boat from Kigoma (2 hours). Baboons, olive and red-tail monkeys also abound.
