About Sof Omar Caves
Sof Omar is a 15.1 km-long river cave system in southern Ethiopia's Bale zone, formed by the underground passage of the Weyb River. Named after the 12th-century Sheikh Sof Omar Ahmed, it is a sacred site for local Muslims who venerate a chamber of natural limestone pillars called the 'Dome'. Accessible on foot with a local guide; the river is crossable only in the dry season.
