About Konso Cultural Landscape

The Konso people have farmed these hills for over 400 years, building elaborate dry-stone terraces to hold the soil and fortified villages (paleta) ringed by multiple stone walls. UNESCO-listed since 2011. The carved wooden waka grave-markers depict deceased heroes and their victims and are unique to Konso culture.
