Ethiopia's lower Omo Valley is one of Africa's last true cultural frontiers — more than 50 ethnic groups, many still living by traditional bull-jumping rites of passage, ochre body-painting, and enset agriculture. This 7-day overland circuit visits the four most distinctive groups: the Mursi (women's lip-plates), Hamer (the extraordinary bull-jumping coming-of-age ceremony — requested on arrival if one is happening), Karo (elaborate white-chalk body paint), and Dassanech (on the Kenyan border at Lake Turkana).
We travel responsibly — village visit fees go directly to the community, photography is permission-based, and we choose small group sizes to minimise impact. This is an intense, life-changing trip and the single most photogenic in Ethiopia.
Route: Addis → Arba Minch → Konso → Jinka (Mursi) → Turmi (Hamer) → Karo (Kolcho) → Omorate (Dassanech) → return Addis

Early flight or long drive via Butajira, Lake Langano lunch stop, and Arba Minch. Sunset over Lake Chamo from the Paradise Lodge escarpment.
Morning Nechisar NP game drive + Crocodile Market boat trip. Afternoon transfer south to Konso. Visit a fortified Konso paleta village + waka carved grave-markers.
Transfer to Jinka through the Tsamai market. Afternoon drive into Mago NP to visit a Mursi village — meet the women with their clay lip plates. Overnight back in Jinka.
Spectacular Thursday market at Key Afer (Ari, Benna and Tsamai traders). Transfer south to Turmi, the Hamer heartland.
Attend the Monday Turmi market (Hamer women in goatskin skirts, elaborate ochre + butter hairstyles). If a bull-jumping ceremony is running in the district (arranged on arrival), we drive to it — the male rite of passage in which a young man leaps naked across the backs of 7–12 bulls.
Morning transfer west to Kolcho, a Karo village on the Omo River cliff — famous for ochre + chalk body paint. Afternoon to Omorate to cross the Omo in a dugout canoe to a Dassanech settlement.
Long transfer back north. Overnight flight from Arba Minch (or continue by road to Addis).
