Responsible Tourism

Tourism can be a powerful force for conservation and community development — or it can be extractive. We choose the former. This page is our public commitment.

Community-owned conservancies

We route trips through community-owned conservancies (Il Ngwesi, Reteti, Iby'Iwacu, Loisaba, Konso) wherever possible. Our transparent pricing shows the conservancy fee on every itinerary.

Wildlife photography code

  • No off-track driving.
  • Minimum 25-metre distance from any wildlife; 50-metre from cats on a kill.
  • Silent approach — no honking, no crowding.
  • Respectful distance and explicit permission for photos of people.

Carbon offsetting

Every AECONS tour includes a voluntary contribution (USD $5 per traveller per day) to the Kenya Forest Service reforestation programme. This is on top of our price and is itemised on each invoice.

Single-use plastics

Kenya banned single-use plastic bags in 2017. We carry refillable bottles on every trip and support refill stations at all our partner lodges.
