Overview

Kidepo is as remote as Uganda gets — 1,442 km² in the far north-east, pressed against South Sudan and Kenya. By road it's 12 hours from Kampala; we fly instead. Inside the park: the Narus Valley plains for 5,000-strong buffalo herds, lion prides, cheetah, ostrich, and the only place in Uganda for beisa oryx and cheetah. Outside the park: the Karamojong pastoralists and, on Mt Morungole, the Ik people — one of Africa's smallest ethnic groups.

Route: Entebbe → fly Kidepo → 3 nights → fly back
